CiM - Creation Is Messy 2023 New Color - Winter Mint Misty Ltd Run

In my first post of color testing of the new CiM - Creation Is Messy 2023 release I wanted to share with you another beautiful green color named Winter Mint Misty Ltd Run.

This glass melted so smoothly and evenly allowing me to create some great beads combining it with other COE 104 glasses.

First up, simple round beads sprinkled with my own Pendragonfyre frit blend. 

 

 

The combination gives a romantic spring feel. 

 

 

The spacers are plain Winter Mint Misty to show the natural hue.

 

As I always like to pair new colors with some of my favourite Double Helix glasses, I created the following beads to layer glasses over the base of Winter Mint Misty and test encasing with my favourite Double Helix Zephyr.

 

This cube bead layered the green base glass with DH Psyche dot bubbles captured under DH Zephyr.

 

This round barrel focal bead features twisted dots of DH Psyche in the centre round encased in Zephyr with shoulders of Winter Mint Misty at each end.  

 

 

 There is a plain spacer at each end of the focal bead for color comparison.

 The silver glass did not fume the green glass and kept the green clean and fresh as spring.

CiM 2020 New Colors - The Final Few

We are coming to the end of a successful CiM - Creation Is Messy 2020 color testing cycle.

Lots of new types of glasses were developed for 2020 and it was fun experimenting with various application to bring out all the glassy goodness to share with my fellow glass enthusiasts!

The final few rods are limited production and when I received them they had no official names, simply coded with testing batch numbers.

First up, a CiM - Creation Is Messy limited color coded as 11.17.6023. It is referred in my testing notes as a blue cloud transparent. 
The single bead photo shows the glass encasing over a clear glass core. You can see the striations of pigment clearly. 

The set of crystal and round beads are made in the same manner with added Double Helix Notos silver glass decoration. I definitely like using the glass in the diluted encasements rather than a more dense bead solely made from the cloud transparent. This is also a get way to use up all those short ends of clear glass that have been gathering in a bowl on my workstation.

This cheerful set of beads were made combining two of CiM’s 2020 new glasses. 
These are limited rods of test glasses coded as 11.17.60301 (I think now named Chirp) and Watermelon LITE a more diluted version of Watermelon Ltd Run. I decorated them with some of Val Cox Flaming June frit.  

I did not encase the beads in clear this time to see if I still got some micro cracking. There is a bit, so still going to be very wary using anything other than COE 104 for pairing these glasses in future.











This focal bead was my test of the new formulation of CiM Poison Apple that is new for 2020. In the past, this glass would lose its translucency if it was worked too long.  

I paired this with Double Helix silver Melia  and Notos and added shards of Aether. After several shaping and reheating, the bead stayed translucent. Very pleased to report that!

I am almost to the end of all the 2020 CiM - Creation is Messy glass testing. This set of beads is a teal transparent glass with mica suspended within. I created simple round beads and found that when the beads are moved, the mica does appear. 

CiM recently renamed this glass to Scuba Diving. It is quite appropriate as I see the micro bubbles with the final result.

CiM 2020 New Colors - Round 2 Wrap up

The folks at CiM -Creation Is Messy continue to amaze with their new 2020 color selection! 
As these are limited runs of colors, these will sell fast. Canadian bead makers, please monitor the Nortel online store for when these will be offered.

This bead set uses a combination of three new CiM Ltd Run colors for 2020. Witches’ Brew, Unicorn and Goldfish are striped into crystal shaped beads with a sprinkling of Val Cox Coy Koiglass frit. 
The CiM working notes for Goldfish did say that it was it was a mismelt of now sold out CiM Clockwork orange that did not strike enough. 
My observation did find the same when using it, it took a lot of heating and cooling cycles to bring out the color. As I use a lot of silver glass in my beads, I tend to work cooler than other beadmakers.
The barrel bead is a centre of Unicorn with Witches Brew ends and frit. The spacers are solid colors of the three new colors.

CiM’s new Heather Ltd Run is a cloudy transparent magenta - a true purply-pink. In this set, it worked beautifully with Double Helix Helios silver glass. It melted smoothly with no adverse reaction other than a slight golden hue.

CiM’s new Onyx Ltd Run is a dense black with no major metallic reactions. But it was a happy accident to see that it did bring out some beautiful blues with I used my own hand blended Pendragonfyre frit. As Onxy is so dense, each of these beads have a CiM Clear core with just a layer of Onyx. This makes it an economical choice for using up shorts of clear as they are hidden in the finished bead.

The barrel beads are bases of CiM’s Summer Haze Ltd Run with blown shards of Onyx with Pendragonfyre frit!

CiM’s new Montezuma Ltd Run is a silver laden blue glass so in testing, I wanted to push the silver to the limit. The flat tab beads has Double Helix silver glass murrini reduced and encased. The barrel bead has the same murrain but with a sprite dragonfly copper foil encasement. As you can see from the spacers, this silver laden Montezuma yields blues and greens the more it is worked in the flame. Lots of potential in this beautiful glass!

Spring 2019 - New CiM Color - Porpoise

Today's new 2019 CiM - Creation Is Messy color is Porpoise Ltd Run!

This new glass color is a greenish gray opaque that when combined with silver foil and my hand blended Pendragonfyre glass frit really sings! It is a wonderful base for the raku and Z-99 to bloom! 
I have included a few photos of this set as I wanted to note an observation when working with this glass. It appears that the spacers have taken on a pearl finish when they emerged from the kiln. I am not sure if this was due to the silver foil/ glass frit on the nearby beads or if this is something that can be replicated again in Porpoise beads on their own.

Could the formula has similar chemistry to the darker Tahitian Pearl? More experimenting will be required to confirm.

I am always looking for base glasses to pair with my Pendragonfyre frit that will bring the rich magenta, purples and blues to bloom with no yucky reactions. Porpoise is definitely one to put on the list.
These beads can be left with a glossy finish or they are also very beautiful as a tumble etched set as well.

I also did a quick test bead using CiM's new Peppermint Cream Ltd Run. If this bead is any indication, I expect to be using it in a set very soon!
The silver foil really glitters in these beads. 

Here is the bead sitting beside the completed CiM Porpoise set for comparison.

Spring 2019 - New CiM Color - Aiko

Today's new 2019 CiM color is Aiko!

CIM’s new Aiko Ltd Run is a vivid transparent teal green that melts smoothly and has a depth of tone and does not bubble or boil.

This focal bead combined it with Double Helix Psyche silver glass frit and 99% fine silver wire encased to capture the glittery goodness!

As most of my color testing pairs new CiM colors with my favorite silver glasses, it is no surprise that I took the opportunity to try out a new Val Cox silver glass frit called Flora.

This focal bead combined it with Val Cox’s Flora and a couple wraps of 99% fine silver wire encased within. 

This final bead was a combination of several of the new CiM 2019 glasses. 
So many of the new colors compliment each other within the green and teal palettes!

This centre bead was created on a base of CiM Peppermint Cream Ltd Run with some CiM Eden Ltd Run dots and CiM Aiko flower twists.

New Spring 2018 CiM Colors - Camouflage and Amphibian

CiM's Camouflage Ltd Run is an opaque olive green with a hint of gray.

Personally I am not a big fan of gray greens as I struggle to choose coordinating colors to try against is as a base.


In this test, I decided to continue to test these new spring glasses with silver and chose to use silver foil and a glass frit from Val Cox named Victoria in this set of test beads.


Camouflage did well with silver foil and the micro dots of frit scattered around the glass frit patterns.

I am pleased with the results!

CiM's Amphibian Ltd Run is another gray green as part of the new spring 2018 color offerings.


On the CiM - Creation is Messy website, it is described as an opaque pale slate green that I thought would have more striations based on the color page.

I found it to be more green than gray the beads that I created.

I used some handmade Raku shards that I placed in an "armor" pattern and reduced them to a dull bronze like metal.
The base glass may have gotten a bit of fuming from the shards but the green really is predominant in the plain spacer beads as well.

So this brings us to the end of the CiM 2018 new colors. They have arrived at Nortel and Jean is ready to take your requests. Give her a shout and grab up some of these colors soon as they are limited editions.

New Spring 2018 CiM Colors - Cotswald Blue and Serengeti

CiM's Serengeti Ltd Run is described as opaque earthy brown with red undertones.




I found that it started as a caramel brown but works to darker tones as it is lightly heated (so lightly that you are really just wafting it in the back of the flame).

I used some silver foil and a sprinkling of my own hand blended Pendragonfyre frit. My frit contains some rare purple rose glass and raku as 2 of the ingredients. It creates some beautiful patterning with the micro-dots of silver framing the bits of colored glass.

The result is the base glass makes the frit really sing! 

I definitely need to do more experimentation with this glass as the levels of tone provides lots of option for bead making.

CiM's Cotswold Blue Ltd Run is a muted opaque teal.
I used the same silver foil and frit glass mix and the result is also very pretty.

I was concerned that other beadmakers had reported striations in the glass once it was worked, but I saw only minimal striations so I suggest working it in a cooler flame to keep these under control.

Sailor's Delight - CiM Jetstream

A new colour tests of the Sailor's Delight Sampler pack of CiM - Creation is Messy colours from Nortel. 

This focal bead was created with CiM - Creation is Messy's Jetstream. This transparent blue is a hue that can be compared to a deep sapphire blue which you can see in the spacer bead.
I paired it with some Double Helix Triton silver glass as well as a wrapping of 99% fine silver wire. After I shaped it into a barrel, I decided it needed more bling. 

I created the ruffle and dipped it into Triton fine frit. After multiple meltings and reductions, the silver metallic shine came through.
This is definitely a unique bead and I am pleased with how it transformed.

Testing a CiM - Creation is Messy Color Rod Sampler# 1 from Nortel

On my visit to Nortel in January, I was lucky to grab up some CiM- Creation is Messy color sampler packs.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will be creating and sharing some bead creations. 
These sampler packs are great for artists that:
- want to "try" a new color without the commitment of purchasing a minimum 1/4 pound of a specific color
- want to create multi-colour beads from a coordinated set of colors.

First sampler that I tried contained the following colors:
Poolside 511553
Bone 511826
Desert Pink 511957
Rapunzel 511627
Enchanted 511626
Venus 511911

As I love using silver glass in my testing, I created some big hole bead sets using silver glass frit and some handmade shards.

The following sets uses Double Helix Triton fine frit. 
Triton is an extra strength super luster on a cobalt blue base that produces a satin iridescence bling when reduced. Fine graded frit is the size of salt grains and as a result needs to be treated very lightly to keep it from melting completely into the surface of the bead.

With Poolside, the silver glass frit provided a golden sugar effect with no impact on the base glass.

With Rapunzel, the frit held it's blue in the reduction flame and also fumed the base glass to a slight golden tint.

With Enchanted, the golden sugar was more evident but there is a slight blue back tint at the surface of the bead.

With Bone, I created two silver frit beads to demonstrate that when it was quickly reduced, the gold/ blue sugar shine comes forward, but the neutral base was greatly fumed to a golden ivory. Once the frit was melted in to the surface, Triton's true blue returns to the metallic shine's surface.

For Bone, silver glass definitely fumes the surface, so if you are looking for it to stay as a whiter neutral, keep it away from silver glass.

The last 2 CIM Sampler colors were matched with handmade shards created from Double Helix Helios silver glass. This glass is a golden-yellow citrine, jewel tone super luster that gleams of gold shine!

With Desert Pink, there was a definite golden fuming when the Helios silver glass shards were added. The true color of the pink rod is the color in the spacer beads.

With Venus, there was little golden fuming and it retained the peachy pink hues of the base glass.

The photo below shows the beads together to show how the fumed Desert Pink bead looks so lovely coordinates with Venus beads.
