New Storm Beads - Part 2

In this post, I will quickly recap 3 more Storm Bead sets I created last week.

Set 1
Starting on a base of Effetre Rose Pink transparent glass, I layered dots of Effetre White pastel and layers of Double Helix silver glasses.

Clear portal glass dots were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass. 
Dots of DH Aurae complete each bead.

Set 2
Starting on a base of Effetre Pale Yellow Emerald transparent glass, I layered dots of Effetre Light Ivory, CiM's Barrier Reef teal transparent and Double Helix silver glasses.

Clear portal glass dots were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass. 
Dots of DH Elpis complete each bead.

Set 3
Starting on a base of Effetre Pale Aquamarine transparent glass, I layered dots of Effetre Light Ivory, CiM Hades and rare TAG Taxco Silver Turquoise silver glasses.

Clear portal glass dots were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass. 
Dots of DH Melia complete each bead.

Why have I never tried Dichroic glass strips before?

On my visit to Nortel back in October, I was blessed with a couple of strips of dichroic glass to experiment with.

These strips of sparkly goodness are the creation of Lori Riley Designs. 

On her site she describes these as "premium dichroic strips are fused and ready for flame. These perfused dichroic strips help prevent scumming and are much easier to use."
They are easy to apply and I have a fun time creating the focal beads in this post, trying out a different one on each bead.

Nortel Glass in Toronto has a wonderful selection of these little treasures, so definitely contact Jean or Jennifer to purchase some for your next bead making session!

All of the beads were created with CiM - Creation Is Messy's Midnight Ltd Run, a dense transparent that color shifts between purple in daylight and navy blue in fluorescent light.
For each of my beads, I feel that the base glass appears more as a black. 
Midnight is a great base for silver glass as well, so I added a few streams of it in each bead as well as I really couldn't resist!

First up.
A base of CiM Midnight with melted Violet dichroic strip and streams of Double Helix Melia 2015. The bead was encased with Effetre Super Clear and hand shaped into the round barrel bead.
The ends of this 35.6mm long bead were decorated with Melia and reduced to a shiny metallic finish.



This 29mm long round barrel focal bead combined Riley's Dichroic strip simply named G/Magenta Crinkle and reams of rare Double Helix KA 357 on the base of CiM Midnight.
The bead was fully enacsed in Effetre Super Clear.

Riley's Dichroic strip named RBA GN Magenta Blue and Double Helix Psyche glass were streams on CiM Midnight. This handformed barrel focal measures 36mm after fully encased in Effetre Super Clear.

Last but certainly not least...

CiM Midnight excelled as the base for Riley Dichroic Aurora C/DK Red and Double Helix Elpis silver glass. This round barrel focal is 34mm long after being encased in Effetre Super Clear and handformed.

Aren't they so pretty and so different?

I recommend trying something new is a great way to finish out 2022 and expand your beadmaking horizons for 2023.

CiM - Creation Messy Color Tests for new Goddess Bumpy Beads

Today's post is sharing a couple of mini sets of my "bumpy" Goddess beads as I was testing out some other color combinations.

Starting on a base of CiM - Creation Is Messy's Lady of The Lake glass, I layered dots of CiM's Birchwood Ltd Run, a creamy opaque ivory with silver, CiM Barrier Reef Ltd Run, a transparent teal, and Double Helix Melia 2 silver infused glass.

Clear portal dots of  Double Helix Zephyr were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass.

                                   

Dots of Double Helix Melia 2 complete each bead.

This mini set of Goddess bumpy beads used CiM - Creation Is Messy's deep dense red Maroon Ltd Run.
Layered dots of CiM's Birchwood Ltd Run, CiM's rare Black Currant Ltd Run purple, and Double Helix rare unnamed silver glass coded as BE-462.

Clear portal dots of  Double Helix Zephyr were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass.

Dots of CiM's Black Currant complete each bead.

Although the CiM site notes Black Currant as SOLD OUT, it is always a good idea to check in with Jean and Jennifer at Nortel to check their "archive".

CiM 2020 New Colors - The Final Few

We are coming to the end of a successful CiM - Creation Is Messy 2020 color testing cycle.

Lots of new types of glasses were developed for 2020 and it was fun experimenting with various application to bring out all the glassy goodness to share with my fellow glass enthusiasts!

The final few rods are limited production and when I received them they had no official names, simply coded with testing batch numbers.

First up, a CiM - Creation Is Messy limited color coded as 11.17.6023. It is referred in my testing notes as a blue cloud transparent. 
The single bead photo shows the glass encasing over a clear glass core. You can see the striations of pigment clearly. 

The set of crystal and round beads are made in the same manner with added Double Helix Notos silver glass decoration. I definitely like using the glass in the diluted encasements rather than a more dense bead solely made from the cloud transparent. This is also a get way to use up all those short ends of clear glass that have been gathering in a bowl on my workstation.

This cheerful set of beads were made combining two of CiM’s 2020 new glasses. 
These are limited rods of test glasses coded as 11.17.60301 (I think now named Chirp) and Watermelon LITE a more diluted version of Watermelon Ltd Run. I decorated them with some of Val Cox Flaming June frit.  

I did not encase the beads in clear this time to see if I still got some micro cracking. There is a bit, so still going to be very wary using anything other than COE 104 for pairing these glasses in future.











This focal bead was my test of the new formulation of CiM Poison Apple that is new for 2020. In the past, this glass would lose its translucency if it was worked too long.  

I paired this with Double Helix silver Melia  and Notos and added shards of Aether. After several shaping and reheating, the bead stayed translucent. Very pleased to report that!

I am almost to the end of all the 2020 CiM - Creation is Messy glass testing. This set of beads is a teal transparent glass with mica suspended within. I created simple round beads and found that when the beads are moved, the mica does appear. 

CiM recently renamed this glass to Scuba Diving. It is quite appropriate as I see the micro bubbles with the final result.

CiM's Purples - Emperor, Enchanted, Amethyst, Boysenberry, Wisteria and Aladdin

Today, I am sharing some of the purple glasses offered by CiM - Creation is Messy.
The focal bead was created on a base of CiM Emperor, a golden transparent purple, with Double Helix Kronos 2 silver glass powder wrapped in silver wire and encased in Zephyr. 

CiM Enchanted Ltd Run was added to each ends  with streams of Double Helix Melia added and lightly reduced to a metallic shine. The spacers are CiM Amethyst Ltd Run.

CiM's Boysenberry Ltd Run is a dense and saturated purple moonstone glass.

In the focal big hole bead below, a base of CiM Boysenberry  on which Double Helix Kronos 2 powder was generously added and stormed Double Helix Clio swirled. A layer of 99% fine silver foil was added and the bead was encased in Zephyr to capture the reactions. 

I added Boysenberry to each end and hand formed it  into a barrel shape. The surface decoration is Double Helix Helios for a golden shine when reduced. The spacers are also Boysenberry.

This last bead set highlights another of CiM's purple moonstones, Aladdin Ltd Run.

The focal big hole bead started with a base of CiM Wisteria Ltd Run on which stormed Double Helix Clio was swirled and encased in clear glass. Aladdin was added to each end and streams of Clio was added as surface decoration.

The spacers are CiM Aladdin.

CIM Ectoplasm with silver glass twisted roses

This focal bead was created on a base of CiM - Creation is Messy's Ectoplasm with a dusting of Double Helix's Kronos 2 powdered fruit. The bead was then decorated with twisted dots made of a combination of CiM Peppermint Cream, Double Helix's Melia encased with Zephyr. Melia reduced dots complete the bead.

More experiments with CiM Elixir!

Just a quick post to share a couple more bead experiments with CiM - Creation is Messy's Elixir.

The following beads were created on a base of CiM Elixir.

One bead has CiM's Peppermint Cream Ltd Run and combination of Double Helix's silver glasses Melia and Clio central dots.. the middle was encased in Zephyr and Melia was added to each end with silver wire and reduced.

The other bead was on a base of Elixir with twisted dots of CiM's Peppermint Cream Ltd Run, Double Helix's silver glass Melia and Zephyr. Melia dots reduced completed the bead. spacers are Elixir.
