New Storm Beads for Spring 2025

Welcome to Pendragonfyre Tales for 2025!

Due to the cold weather on the east coast, I take a "restoration" break over a few months to "refresh and rest" my health and creativity. 

The break was wonderful and allowed me to continue to post sets from 2024 on Etsy and share my creations on my IG and FB social media platforms.

We are now ready to jump into 2025 with new spring inspired sets.

For this set of 7 Storm beads, I used CiM's creamy ivory Butter Pecan as the base glass. Layers of ivory glass and several layers of Double Helix silver infused glasses were carefully added.

Each bead was encased in clear glass domes and dotted each bead with more silver infused glass and reduced it to a metallic shine.. 

For this set of 7 Storm beads, I used Red Roof Tile opaque as the base glass. Layers of ivory glass and several layers of Double Helix silver infused glasses were carefully added.

Each bead was encased in clear glass domes and dotted each bead with more silver infused glass and reduced it to a metallic shine.

Four spacers of Red Roof Tile are included in this set.

New Storm Beads - Part 3

My Storm series continues over the next 2 blog posts. I enjoy creating these beads as each combination of silver glasses can surprise me when they emerge from the kiln the following morning.

Set 1

For this set of 9 Storm beads, I used Italian medium blue transparent as the base glass. Layers of ivory glass and several layers of Double Helix silver infused glasses were carefully added.

Each bead was encased in clear glass domes and dotted each bead with more silver infused glass and reduced it to a metallic shine. 
Ten spacers of medium blue transparent are included in this set.

Set 2
For this set of 6 Storm beads, I used Italian #443 glass named Spanish Leather as the base glass. Layers of ivory glass and several layers of Double Helix silver infused glasses were carefully added.

Each bead was encased in clear glass domes and dotted each bead with more silver infused glass and reduced it to a metallic shine.

Four spacers of the red base glass are included in this set.

Silver, Silver and More Silver!

Today I am showing you another style of Pendragonfyre beads using silver glass and 99% fine silver wire.

I find this method of capturing the reduction of the silver glass under the clear encasement allows the colors and mother of pearl shine to be magnified tremendously.

The first set is made with CiM - Creation Is Messy's Eel Grass as the base glass. This is a lovely transparent green that reminds me of nature.

I added a stripe of Double Helix Psyche silver glass in the middle and wrapped some 99% fine silver wire around it. Then I reduced and encased the bead to bring out the amazing blues, creams and purples. 

The silver wire melted and formed little drops and streams of silver under the thick layer of Zephyr clear glass. The spacer beads are pure Eel Grass.

The second set is made with CiM - Creation Is Messy's Burnt Sugar as the base glass. This is a warm transparent brown with a peachy tint.

I used the same technique as before, but with Double Helix Kalypso silver glass instead of Psyche. The result was stunning, with rich blues, creams and purples. 

The silver wire also created beautiful patterns under the clear glass encasement.

The spacers are pure Burnt Sugar.

As a final bead, I used the same glasses as above and created a hollow focal bead.

I am still practicing the technique of hollows. 

This one was created on a puffy mandrel and I am pleased with the result.

Silver Glass and Fine Silver Wire

I have always been fascinated by silver infused glass and how it reacts with different types of glass. I enjoy creating unique effects with CiM - Creation Is Messy or Effetre glasses and silver glass.

In this set of 6 encased round beads, I used CiM Blueberry Muffin Ltd Run as the base glass. This glass is a very dark opal indigo purple that looks almost black when used as a base.

I started with a clear glass core and covered it with the purple glass. I added some dots of Double Helix Notos silver glass and plunged them into the base. 

After a reduction and encasement each dot resulted with several layers of Zephyr clear glass to create the subtle color variation and beautiful mother of pearl shine!

The round beads are about the size of marbles and they are paired with chunky nugget spacers made with a mix of clear and Blueberry Muffin indigo purple glass.

This style of Pendragonfyre beads are named Silvertails for the 99% fine silver wire that I wrap around each round bead. 

For this set the base glass is called CiM - Creation Is Messy Wheatgrass, a bright misty opal green. Although it is said to be a misty opal, I found it to be more of a transparent glass with such a clear and clean fresh green hue.

Silver Glass Reactions - Magic Of The Goddess Bead - Part 2

As part two of my posts on my Goddess beads, I still have more sets of beads to share with you today. In this post, these beads have bases of new CiM - Creation Is Messy's colors for 2023.

Photographs never properly show the mother of pearl and mirror shine that each "bump" has captured.

This set started on a base of CiM - Creation Is Messy’s new for 2023, Lychee Milky and Lychee Misty, each are ivory opals.

 

Layers of Effetre Light Ivory, CiM's Leaky Pen were placed and capped with Double Helix 2016 Garage Sale glass coded as OP.e.

 

 
The silver glass was stormed and reduced and captured under clear portals of Double Helix Zephyr. 

 

To complete each bead, dots of silver infused Notos was added and reduced to a metallic shine. The spacers are pure Lychee Misty.

 

 

The set below started on a base of CiM - Creation Is Messy’s new for 2023, Volcanic Ash Milky, a grey milky opal.

 

Layers of Effetre Light Ivory, CiM's Leaky Pen were placed and capped with stormed Double Helix Notos. 

 

The silver glass was stormed and reduced and captured under clear portals of Double Helix Zephyr.

 

 
To complete each bead, dots of silver infused Notos was added and reduced to a metallic shine. The spacers are pure Volcanic Ash Milky.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2023 New Color - Amazon Misty Ltd Run

Happy Saturday everyone!

The sun is shining and after a few days of snow this week, I am looking forward to warming up the studio and completing my 2023 CiM - Creation Is Messy color testing. I have been pleased with all the colors offered this year in their misty and milky forms.

I took the opportunity to get in a glass order of some CiM glasses that Nortel still had available to add to my glass stash including Eggplant, Barrier Reef and Raindrop. Those will be great for some of the bead sets that I have planned for later this spring.

For today's post I am sharing a quick set of CiM's new 2023 Amazon Misty Ltd Run as I tested it with Double Helix silver glass.

Amazon Misty was based on an older CiM color named Rainforest which is a greenish opal teal. Amazon is being offered in both a misty and milky version for 2023.

Below is a photo of the original Rainforest with handmade Raku shards from a post in 2018. Click here if you are interested.

For this big hole bead set, I started with a base of Amazon Misty on which I sprinkled and melted in from Double Helix Kronos frit and streamed some Notos silver glass. 

The mother of pearl and color striations were captured under an encasement of Zephyr clear glass. This flat barrel tab measures 27mm hole to hole.

The 4 spacers are pure Amazon misty to show the base glass in comparison.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2023 New Color - Kiwi Misty Ltd Run

Today, I am introducing you to a new 2023 green from CiM - Creation Is Messy named Kiwi. Kiwi is a lime green opal the is offered in both a misty and milky version.
The beads within this post are created with the misty sister.

First up, I used Kiwi Misty as the base on which a layer of Jetage Studio's Lumiere Luster named Strawberry Rhubarb was added and then encased with Double Helix Zephyr. 

 

 

The spacers are pure Kiwi Misty to show the base color directly.

 

 
This set of goddess series beads was created on a base of CiM's Kiwi Misty Ltd Run glass. 

 

 

Each goddess bead was then layered with dots of CiM's Cafe Au Lait, Double Helix's Blue Catalyst glass named ES405, a 2016 Garage Sale rod coded CL.a. 

 

 

The combination of the glasses create the multi-hued portals captured under each clear glass dot of Zephyr.  

 

 

Double Helix OX-376 completes the metallic highlight droplets on each bead.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Fjord Misty Ltd Run

CiM’s Fjord Misty Ltd Run is described as a bluish teal misty opal a relative to rare CiM’s Aegean transparent teal that has been sold out on the CiM website for a while.

I looked through my Creation Is Messy stash and noticed that CiM Atlantis Ltd Run, an opal seemed to match Fjord quite well.

Note: I did check the Nortel Glass site and both Aegean and Atlantis appear to still be available, so definitely contact Jean or Jennifer to purchase.

I have used Atlantis in the past and did find that depending on how long it was worked in the flame, it would opacify and vary in its translucency. Here is my past blog post on Atlantis back in Sept 2011.

To see how these 2 glasses compare, I created the following beads with mixtures of the two.

If you look closely at the spacer beads, you will see the comparison of the two Fjord spacers in the middle between the Atlantis spacer beads.

Each tapered barrel bead has one end of Fjord and other is Atlantis. It is on these beads were I see a very slight greenish hue on the Fjord where the DH Notos silver glass fumed a golden cast.

The round beads are solid Fjord with silver glass streams and dots.

The rich teal hues just call to me to pair with Double Helix silver glass. 

These beads show the potential to use DH Notos, a silver saturated super-luster with a subtle blue-grey-green tone for raised decoration.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2021 Colors - Stonewashed Ltd Run

Stonewashed Ltd Run is a new 2021 CiM - Creation Is Messy cloudy transparent blue. 

This bead set was created using Stonewashed as the base glass. 

Layered dots of SOLD OUT CiM Lapis was layered with Double Helix Notos, a super saturated silver luster reduction glass. 

Clear portal dots of Double Helix Zephyr were added to capture the metallic reduction shine of the silver glass.

A couple of spacers of Stonewashed as well as Notos spacer beads are included to complete the set.

I did experience some shockiness in melting Stonewashed, but this is expected from the cloudy transparents from time to time. Working cool and patience allows me to pull the goodness from this denim colored glass!

CiM 2020 New Colors - The Final Few

We are coming to the end of a successful CiM - Creation Is Messy 2020 color testing cycle.

Lots of new types of glasses were developed for 2020 and it was fun experimenting with various application to bring out all the glassy goodness to share with my fellow glass enthusiasts!

The final few rods are limited production and when I received them they had no official names, simply coded with testing batch numbers.

First up, a CiM - Creation Is Messy limited color coded as 11.17.6023. It is referred in my testing notes as a blue cloud transparent. 
The single bead photo shows the glass encasing over a clear glass core. You can see the striations of pigment clearly. 

The set of crystal and round beads are made in the same manner with added Double Helix Notos silver glass decoration. I definitely like using the glass in the diluted encasements rather than a more dense bead solely made from the cloud transparent. This is also a get way to use up all those short ends of clear glass that have been gathering in a bowl on my workstation.

This cheerful set of beads were made combining two of CiM’s 2020 new glasses. 
These are limited rods of test glasses coded as 11.17.60301 (I think now named Chirp) and Watermelon LITE a more diluted version of Watermelon Ltd Run. I decorated them with some of Val Cox Flaming June frit.  

I did not encase the beads in clear this time to see if I still got some micro cracking. There is a bit, so still going to be very wary using anything other than COE 104 for pairing these glasses in future.











This focal bead was my test of the new formulation of CiM Poison Apple that is new for 2020. In the past, this glass would lose its translucency if it was worked too long.  

I paired this with Double Helix silver Melia  and Notos and added shards of Aether. After several shaping and reheating, the bead stayed translucent. Very pleased to report that!

I am almost to the end of all the 2020 CiM - Creation is Messy glass testing. This set of beads is a teal transparent glass with mica suspended within. I created simple round beads and found that when the beads are moved, the mica does appear. 

CiM recently renamed this glass to Scuba Diving. It is quite appropriate as I see the micro bubbles with the final result.
