Silver Glass Reactions - Magic Of The Goddess Bead - Part 1

I have been enjoying the warmer weather in April and taking advantage of a few vacation days away from my office to hide away in my glass studio.

I think I can proudly say I am known for creating my Goddess bead sets over the past decade. Each bead with its "bumpy" glass portals is a result of unique glass combinations of silver glass.

Within this post, I have lots of small Goddess bead sets to share with you today.

Let's get right to it!

Photographs never properly show the mother of pearl and mirror shine that each "bump" has captured.

This set started on a base of CiM - Creation Is Messy’s Amethyst, a pale transparent pinky-purple.

 

Layers of CiM's Ra, a silver laden yellow opaque, Double Helix blue catalyst ES 405 and SK 652 silver glasses.

 

The silver glass was stormed and reduced and captured under clear portals of Double Helix Zephyr. 

 

To complete each bead, dots of silver infused Aurae Light was added and reduced to a metallic shine. The spacers of pure Amethyst complete the set. 

 

 
The set below started on a base of CiM Bubblebath, a pale opal purple.

 

With the same combination of layers of CiM's Ra, Double Helix blue catalyst ES 405 and SK 652 silver glasses.

 

The silver glass was stormed and reduced and captured under clear portals of Double Helix Zephyr.

To complete each bead, dots of silver infused Aurae Light was added and reduced to a metallic shine.

 

 

The spacers of pure CiM Bubblebath complete the set.  

As always, I purchase my CiM glass from Nortel in Toronto. 

It appears that Amethyst is showing as currently available at the time of this post.

Bubblebath is a rare sold out glass unfortunately, but definitely check out the CiM website for other purple opals available.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2023 New Color - Amazon Milky Ltd Run

 I love testing new CiM - Creation Is Messy colors with Double Helix variety of glasses.

In this post, I chose new Amazon Milky Ltd Run to highlight.

CiM has created a misty and milky opal version of their previous color named Rainforest. 

Check out my post from Feb 2011 to see what I did with Rainforest. You may wish to check with Nortel if they still have some in stock.

This set of goddess series beads was created on a base of CiM Amazon Milky glass. 

 

 

Each goddess bead was then layered with dots of CiM Ra, Double Helix's Blue Catalyst glass named ES-405, a 2016 Garage Sale rod coded SK.j. 

 

The combination of the glasses create the multi-hued portals captured under each clear glass dot of Zephyr. Double Helix Triton completes the metallic highlight droplets on each bead.

 

All the new CiM colors for 2023 are available through Nortel in Toronto through their online shopping cart. I suggest ordering some very soon before it is gone.

Sharing Favorite Bead Styles - Goddess Portal Beads

One of my favourite style of beads to make is what I have named my Goddess Beads. 

Way back starting in 2010, I had a series of beads with unique combinations of glasses within the style of these “bumpy” portal beads. 

Each set was a unique combination of glasses with silver glass portals captured under clear bubbles each named after a Goddess name.

I have recently revisited this style again out of the sheer pleasure of creating them.
This post highlights 2 new sets created recently.

This first set started on a base of CiM - Creation Is Messy’s Limelight, a light transparent green that is beautifully fresh green tone.

Layers of CiM’s Ra, a rare creamy opaque yellow laden with silver, and Eden, a dense transparent pine green with aventurine, were placed and capped with Double Helix silver glass named Chloe. 

The silver glass was stormed and reduced and captured under clear portals of Double Helix Zephyr.

The Chloe silver glass is a speckled silver glass that when reduced brings out various speckled mother of pearl reactions in shades of yellows, blues, pinks and purples.

To complete each bead, dots of silver infused OX-376 was added and reduced to a metallic shine.

Below, is a set of 3 Goddess beads started with a base of CiM’s Maroon, a dense maroon red.

I have created several other sets of beads with this glass and they are highlights on CiM’s website. This glass loves silver so it was a natural to try it out with the Goddess style.

Starting on a base of this glass, I layered dots of CiM’s Painted Hill, an opaque yellow, and CiM’s rare Black Currant, a very dark transparent purple that appears almost black . 

For silver glass, I used some rare TAG Golden Emerald from my archive stash. It is a great glass to storm and create various hues from blues to pinks. 

Unfortunately, Trautman Art Glass (TAG) appears to no longer be in business, so I will cherish and hoard my stash as a result.

Clear portal dots of Effetre clear were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass.

Dots of Double Helix Hyperion complete each bead with hues of purples and blues.

Revisiting Favorite CiM Colors From the Past

Disclaimer - Though the CiM - Creation is Messy colors noted in this post may still be available at a few distributors, they do appear as SOLD OUT on the CiM website. 

I still wanted to capture these color combinations on this blog for future reference.

In 2020, CiM started producing new style of glass colors known as "cloudy" transparents.

In this set, CiM's Chocolate Ltd Run was wrapped with 99% fine silver and paired with spacer beads. 

This is a lovely glass that I had experienced some issues combining it with glass frit.

Using it with fine silver is a perfect combination to bring out the richness of the hues of chocolate brown and silver.

Two favourite 2020 colors, CiM's Adriatic Ltd Run  and Ra Ltd Run are prefect together for ocean inspired beads. This set of rounds capture silvered ivory waves within each bead.

CiM New Colors for 2020 - Testing Roundup - Week 1

This is the first post to cover off new beads made with The folks at CiM - Creation Is Messy glass have been cooking up some amazing colors for 2020. 
They have changed some of their production working habits to produce limited edition colors in small batches to accomodate the current global market.
Using limited run batches, the goal is to work closer with the lampworking community to determine what colors are the best to reproduce in future.
As an artist, I am always chasing that new color that is unique to the glass palette and having the opportunity to test colors first is something I look forward to each year.
This year, the colors did not disappoint and they have brought fresh color to my studio during these uncertain times of Covid-19.
For those that follow my Facebook, you are aware that my long awaited knee replacement surgery has been cancelled due to hospital operation room closures. Let's hope and pray that we "flatten the curve" and life gets back to normal. Until then, I offer you eye candy with the new colors over the next few weeks. There are almost 50 new colors, so let's get started!

CiM’s new Blueberry Muffin Ltd Run is a very dense opal royal blue. Imagine blueberry jam. 
The glass is so dense, that focal beads below are made with a clear glass core with Blueberry Muffin encasement. This is awesome as the glass goes along way rather than waste using as solid beads only. The focal beads have a sprinkling of Val Cox Silver Lake frit. This is a dense white blend which is quite rare to find now and the mix brought out shade from light blue to dark midnight blue. 



I created some handblown glass shards using CiM’s new Blueberry Muffin with Val Cox Silver Lake frit.
The base of these beads is CiM’s new London Fog Ltd Run. 
The bead with the 99% fine silver wrap has a layer of Silver Lake frit under the shard and it didn’t react as much as the frit did on the darker glass. Spacer beads are pure London Fog.

This are classic beads! 
CiM’s new London Fog Ltd Run with gentle sprinkling of Val Cox Trickster frit. 
Beautiful for spring. There is a gentle pink blush to these beads from the frit. 
Spacers are London Fog.



Now this is a fun glass! 
CiM Circus Tent Ltd Run with it’s color streamers suspended within the clear glass. I capped the ends with Double Helix Aurae silver glass. 
So happy that the CiM glass had no reaction against the silver glass so that I can be confident to try more bead designs without worry.

The silver glass fumed the Peony pink with a golden peachy glow.

Hand-blown glass shards of CiM’s new Chocolate Ltd Run with silvered ivory. Chocolate is a cloudy brown transparent that is true to it's name.


This set has a base of CiM Candlelight Ltd Run, a lovely transparent yellow, with these lovely shards created subtle patterns. 





































This set of beads was created with a combination of two CiM new 2020 colors - Chocolate Ltd Run and Lunar Ltd Run, a blue opal. 
These colors work well with Double Helix Aurae Light silver glass droplets producing a glittering result.

This set of beads use the new CiM pink called Ballerina Ltd Run. 
It is a soft pink that I had a bit of a challenge in getting anything but a transparent.
The single bead is a base of Ballerina with my hand-blended Pendragonfyre frit. 
Apart from the spacers, the remaining beads are Ballerina over a core of CiM Peace with more of my frit. This would be lovely for a summer wedding bracelet.

Combining CiM’s Adriatic Ltd Run, a bright blue misty opal and Ra Ltd Run, an opaque silver laden yellow, created these beauties! 
A twisted stream of silvered ivory fumes a golden hue over Ra but kept the misty blue hues as rich as the sea!

CiM’s new fresh green, Avonlea Ltd Run absolutely sings when combined with Double Helix Melia silver glass. This set of beads shows surface and encased decorations. 
Spacers are solid Avonlea.



Last but certainly not least is result of cleaning out a drawer in my studio. A large sheet of pure copper foil that I purchased over 10 years ago caught my eye along with some scrapbooking cutout stamps. 
CiM’s new Summer Haze Ltd Run is a yellow misty opal. 
Experimenting using it as a base and encasing copper foil with Double Helix clear glasses Aether and Zephyr.  
I add a few drops of silver glass for a bit of added glitter.
