Simple Rounds with Silvered Ivory Stringers!

On the post today, the focus is to show how silvered ivory stringer can be used in a variety of ways with both transparent and opaque glasses.

As I am learning more each studio session how my new kiln works, I have been using the sessions to make as many beads as possible to understand the value of having the larger kiln.
This past session, I created 88 beads in one sitting... which I think it the most for a day yet.
I will share the beads over the next couple of blog posts and hope you enjoy seeing them.

Today, the simple silvered ivory stinger stripe on transparent glasses.

On CiM - Creation Is Messy Larkspur, a transparent color that shifts between blue and lavender depending on your lighting. I definitely suggest you check out the photos on the CiM website to better understand how this glass changes color under sunlight, fluorescent and incandescent. It is quite cool.

 

 

The next two transparent are Effetre glasses that Nortel gifted me when I visited last month.

Effetre Light Aquamarine 034 - such a lovely sea inspired color!

 

The next Effetre color was coded on the Italian sticker as Amethyst but in checking online it appears to be named Pale Purple 046. It is a very pretty purple  transparent that I previously used for encasing over white in my Love Sonnet beads.

 

 All of these glasses are economical in price and powerful in their color saturation.

Silver Glass Reactions - Magic Of The Goddess Bead - Part 1

I have been enjoying the warmer weather in April and taking advantage of a few vacation days away from my office to hide away in my glass studio.

I think I can proudly say I am known for creating my Goddess bead sets over the past decade. Each bead with its "bumpy" glass portals is a result of unique glass combinations of silver glass.

Within this post, I have lots of small Goddess bead sets to share with you today.

Let's get right to it!

Photographs never properly show the mother of pearl and mirror shine that each "bump" has captured.

This set started on a base of CiM - Creation Is Messy’s Amethyst, a pale transparent pinky-purple.

 

Layers of CiM's Ra, a silver laden yellow opaque, Double Helix blue catalyst ES 405 and SK 652 silver glasses.

 

The silver glass was stormed and reduced and captured under clear portals of Double Helix Zephyr. 

 

To complete each bead, dots of silver infused Aurae Light was added and reduced to a metallic shine. The spacers of pure Amethyst complete the set. 

 

 
The set below started on a base of CiM Bubblebath, a pale opal purple.

 

With the same combination of layers of CiM's Ra, Double Helix blue catalyst ES 405 and SK 652 silver glasses.

 

The silver glass was stormed and reduced and captured under clear portals of Double Helix Zephyr.

To complete each bead, dots of silver infused Aurae Light was added and reduced to a metallic shine.

 

 

The spacers of pure CiM Bubblebath complete the set.  

As always, I purchase my CiM glass from Nortel in Toronto. 

It appears that Amethyst is showing as currently available at the time of this post.

Bubblebath is a rare sold out glass unfortunately, but definitely check out the CiM website for other purple opals available.

CiM's Purples - Emperor, Enchanted, Amethyst, Boysenberry, Wisteria and Aladdin

Today, I am sharing some of the purple glasses offered by CiM - Creation is Messy.
The focal bead was created on a base of CiM Emperor, a golden transparent purple, with Double Helix Kronos 2 silver glass powder wrapped in silver wire and encased in Zephyr. 

CiM Enchanted Ltd Run was added to each ends  with streams of Double Helix Melia added and lightly reduced to a metallic shine. The spacers are CiM Amethyst Ltd Run.

CiM's Boysenberry Ltd Run is a dense and saturated purple moonstone glass.

In the focal big hole bead below, a base of CiM Boysenberry  on which Double Helix Kronos 2 powder was generously added and stormed Double Helix Clio swirled. A layer of 99% fine silver foil was added and the bead was encased in Zephyr to capture the reactions. 

I added Boysenberry to each end and hand formed it  into a barrel shape. The surface decoration is Double Helix Helios for a golden shine when reduced. The spacers are also Boysenberry.

This last bead set highlights another of CiM's purple moonstones, Aladdin Ltd Run.

The focal big hole bead started with a base of CiM Wisteria Ltd Run on which stormed Double Helix Clio was swirled and encased in clear glass. Aladdin was added to each end and streams of Clio was added as surface decoration.

The spacers are CiM Aladdin.

Spring 2019 - New CiM Color - Amethyst

This post carries on with sneak peeks for spring!

Today's new 2019 CiM color is Amethyst.

I have many clients that love purple so any new additions to the purple color palette are always welcomed. 
CiM - Creation is Messy's new Amethyst is a light transparent purple that leans toward the blue side reducing the brown cast that some purples can create.
As spacers, it is a very pretty light purple as seen in the photo below.

When combined with silver glass, it is important to note my observations below in your bead creation plans.

If you combine it with silver glass know that will fume a golden cast on any base glass. 
As seen below, I used a ribbon of Double Helix Kronos 2 over the base of Amethyst and encased it in Double Helix's non reactive Zephyr. The purple base fumed a bit around the edges, while the blues within Kronos 2 bloomed to beautiful blue green hues.

In the photo below, I simply melted the Kronos 2 scrolls into the surface of the Amethyst before I encased it again in clear glass. The silver glass fumed a golden cast which appears more pronounced as a brown cast over the bead. 

Lesson Learned: This new purple is wonderful addition to my glass color palette. Getting to know each of these new glasses and how they collaborate with each other is key to amazing bead creations. 
My plan to test this again in beads with non silver color combinations will be shared in future blog posts.
