New Storm Beads for Spring 2025

Welcome to Pendragonfyre Tales for 2025!

Due to the cold weather on the east coast, I take a "restoration" break over a few months to "refresh and rest" my health and creativity. 

The break was wonderful and allowed me to continue to post sets from 2024 on Etsy and share my creations on my IG and FB social media platforms.

We are now ready to jump into 2025 with new spring inspired sets.

For this set of 7 Storm beads, I used CiM's creamy ivory Butter Pecan as the base glass. Layers of ivory glass and several layers of Double Helix silver infused glasses were carefully added.

Each bead was encased in clear glass domes and dotted each bead with more silver infused glass and reduced it to a metallic shine.. 

For this set of 7 Storm beads, I used Red Roof Tile opaque as the base glass. Layers of ivory glass and several layers of Double Helix silver infused glasses were carefully added.

Each bead was encased in clear glass domes and dotted each bead with more silver infused glass and reduced it to a metallic shine.

Four spacers of Red Roof Tile are included in this set.

New Storm Beads - Part 3

My Storm series continues over the next 2 blog posts. I enjoy creating these beads as each combination of silver glasses can surprise me when they emerge from the kiln the following morning.

Set 1

For this set of 9 Storm beads, I used Italian medium blue transparent as the base glass. Layers of ivory glass and several layers of Double Helix silver infused glasses were carefully added.

Each bead was encased in clear glass domes and dotted each bead with more silver infused glass and reduced it to a metallic shine. 
Ten spacers of medium blue transparent are included in this set.

Set 2
For this set of 6 Storm beads, I used Italian #443 glass named Spanish Leather as the base glass. Layers of ivory glass and several layers of Double Helix silver infused glasses were carefully added.

Each bead was encased in clear glass domes and dotted each bead with more silver infused glass and reduced it to a metallic shine.

Four spacers of the red base glass are included in this set.

New Storm Beads - Part 2

In this post, I will quickly recap 3 more Storm Bead sets I created last week.

Set 1
Starting on a base of Effetre Rose Pink transparent glass, I layered dots of Effetre White pastel and layers of Double Helix silver glasses.

Clear portal glass dots were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass. 
Dots of DH Aurae complete each bead.

Set 2
Starting on a base of Effetre Pale Yellow Emerald transparent glass, I layered dots of Effetre Light Ivory, CiM's Barrier Reef teal transparent and Double Helix silver glasses.

Clear portal glass dots were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass. 
Dots of DH Elpis complete each bead.

Set 3
Starting on a base of Effetre Pale Aquamarine transparent glass, I layered dots of Effetre Light Ivory, CiM Hades and rare TAG Taxco Silver Turquoise silver glasses.

Clear portal glass dots were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass. 
Dots of DH Melia complete each bead.

New Storm Beads! - Part 1

Summer 2024 was busy with many activities in the garden and day-time work. 

As a result, my first step back into the glass studio since early August was this week.

I was getting low in stock for Pendragonfyre Storm Beads, so my first session at the torch was getting a few new sets created.

In this post, I will quickly recap the new sets.

Set 1
Starting on a base of CiM - Creation Is Messy Oliphant grey opaque glass, I layered dots of Effetre Light Ivory, rare CiM’s Black Currant and TAG rare Golden Emerald silver glass.

Clear portal glass dots were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass. 
Dots of DH Hyperion complete each bead.

Set 2

Starting on a base of Effetre Red Roof Tile #440 opaque glass, I layered dots of Effetre Light Ivory with various Double Helix silver glasses.

Clear glass portal dots were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass. 
Dots of DH Ekho complete each bead.

Set 3

Starting on a base of Effetre Black glass layered dots of Effete Light Ivory with various Double Helix silver glasses were added.

Clear glass portal dots were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass. 
Dots of DH Aurae complete each bead.

I see that CiM Oliphant is showing as in stock at Nortel Glass in Toronto as of the date of this blog post. It is a SOLD OUT color on CiM's website, so definitely get some in your next glass order!

Lampwork Glass - The History about Italian Effetre Glass

As a lampwork artist, I use many different "brands" of soft glass. 

In much of my work over the last decade, three brands are most constant in my studio are:

• CiM Creation Is Messy
• Double Helix - my favorite silver infused glass
• Effetre glass 

The oldest of the three brands is Effetre. But what is it and how did it come to be? 

In this blog post, I will tell you everything you need to know about this amazing type of glass and its history.

Effetre glass is an Italian basic when it comes to glass used in lampworking.

Lampworking which is a technique of shaping glass by melting it with a torch. 

It is considered a medium-soft glass, meaning it is easy to work with when hot. 

It comes in a wide range of colors and can be used to make beads, jewelry, sculptures and other artistic objects.

Effetre glass is also known as Moretti glass, because it was originally produced by the Moretti family in Murano, Italy. 

Murano is an island near Venice that has been famous for its glassmaking since the Middle Ages. 

Murano glassmakers developed many innovations and secrets that made their glass unique and highly valued.

One of these secrets was the method of making millefiori or murrine, which are glass rods with layers of different colors that create beautiful patterns when sliced. 

The Moretti family rediscovered this ancient technique in the 19th century and created many new colors and designs of glass rods and millefiori. Click here for their pdf catalog of patterns

Effetre Murano SRL is the only company that still makes Effetre glass in Murano today. They use modern technology but also preserve the traditional skills and quality of their products. They offer a variety of items, such as filigree, glass sheets, frits, blocks, tubes and zanfirico-reticello, which are all made with Effetre glass.

Just Another Spacer Sunday (To the tune of Manic Monday)

I love going to the glass studio on Sunday to create some new spacer sets. 
It's like a ritual for me, and I always have this song in my mind...

"It's just another manic Monday (Woah, woah)
I wish it was Sunday (Woah, woah)
'Cause that's my fun day (Woah, woah, woah, woah)
My I don't have to run day (Woah, woah)
It's just another manic Monday"

That's why I'm showing you these Sunday spacers today. 

I never plan ahead what colors I'll use, I just pick them randomly from my glass shelves and enjoy the peaceful and relaxing process of making spacers.

A lovely peachy pink that I received in a order from Nortel. An older Vetrofond pink #068 that I would describe as yellow pink that transmits a peachy hue.

A lovely Effetre Light Teal transparent #026.

Effetre Light Yellow Emerald transparent # 071. This glass is lovely in both it's natural state as well as etched to a sea glass feel.

Next up, a few new Bullseye color spacers. It has been a while since I played with rod in my collection, so these are the first few colors that drew my eye.

Bullseye Raspberry Cream # 4002. This was a special offering of glass that seems to now be out of production, but it is lovely for Etsy 2024 Year of Berry.

Bullseye Pale Steel Blue #1506 is a lovely blue, much different that what is offered in other glass palettes. It reminds me of denim blue.

Bullseye Aquamarine Blue Tint # 1803 is one of their pale tint glasses that seem to glow from inside. These glasses are lovely also as etched faux sea beads.

Last but certainly not to be missed, CiM - Creation Is Messy's two spacer sets from this Sunday session

CiM's Burnt Sugar which is a rich amber hue that looks like maple syrup. Yummy!

CiM's Midnight, a dense transparent that color shifts between purple in daylight and navy blue in fluorescent light.
