Sea Inspired Focals with Silvered Ivory

On the post today, the focus is to show how silvered ivory stringer can be used in a variety of ways with both transparent and opaque glasses.

When I visited Jean at Nortel back in April, she asked me to test a few Effetre glasses that she had in stock and needed to be highlighted to bead makers.

In this post, I used one of them paired with a favourite CiM - Creation Is Messy glass to create a sea inspired bead set of focals.

Each of these flat tab beads would be lovely as a pendant or multiples combined into an amazing necklace.

Each focal bead was hand formed with waves of Effetre Storm Surge with a stormy sky of rare CiM Sea Mist Ltd Run. 

Sea Mist was created by CiM as a core of clear, encased in transparent blue, encased in clear.

A stripe of silvered ivory stringer creates crests of waves on each bead.

A few spacer beads of each of the glasses are included in this set.

I really love Effetre Storm Surge #784 and look forward to how to use it in another bead style.

Glitter - A Little Goes A Long Way - Sharing New Experiments

In my last post, I shared my initial testing of a few of Lori Riley's dichroic strips.

On her site she describes these as "premium dichroic strips are fused and ready for flame. These prefused dichroic strips help prevent scumming and are much easier to use."

I was also blessed with some Lumiere Lusters glitters that I have only started to experiment with.

I wanted to share a few more focal beads that combined some various new glasses that I am trying out from Double Helix Glassworks with these various glittery treats!

First up, these two focal were created over a clear base with encased layers of Double Helix Oracle Violet Opal (I am not certain which one I have, but click here to review them)

Streams of Double Helix rare silver glass known as BE-462 Purple Luster was added along with Dots of Riley Dichroic Pink & Teal Crinkle strip. 

A final encasement of Double Helix Zephyr completely the bead before the final shaping.

These would be lovely pendants.


This next bead was created on a base of CiM - Creation Is Messy's Maroon, a dense maroon red. Streams of Riley Dichroic Pink Teal Crinkle and Double Helix TC663 test glass. 

Zephyr clear encasement was added to capture the glitter and the mother of pearl luster of the silver infused glass.

Finally, just a couple of first tries at adding Lumiere Luster's Ion Opal glitter to a simple bead base of CiM’s Midnight. 

This glitter is much easier to manage than the pixie dust of the "old days" of my lampworking beginnings.

I look forward to testing and trying to find the best way to use this glitter to it's best potential without adding any burnout or scumming that sometimes results from working the bead with too much heat.

Why have I never tried Dichroic glass strips before?

On my visit to Nortel back in October, I was blessed with a couple of strips of dichroic glass to experiment with.

These strips of sparkly goodness are the creation of Lori Riley Designs. 

On her site she describes these as "premium dichroic strips are fused and ready for flame. These perfused dichroic strips help prevent scumming and are much easier to use."
They are easy to apply and I have a fun time creating the focal beads in this post, trying out a different one on each bead.

All of the beads were created with CiM - Creation Is Messy's Midnight Ltd Run, a dense transparent that color shifts between purple in daylight and navy blue in fluorescent light.
For each of my beads, I feel that the base glass appears more as a black. 
Midnight is a great base for silver glass as well, so I added a few streams of it in each bead as well as I really couldn't resist!

First up.
A base of CiM Midnight with melted Violet dichroic strip and streams of Double Helix Melia 2015. The bead was encased with Effetre Super Clear and hand shaped into the round barrel bead.
The ends of this 35.6mm long bead were decorated with Melia and reduced to a shiny metallic finish.



This 29mm long round barrel focal bead combined Riley's Dichroic strip simply named G/Magenta Crinkle and reams of rare Double Helix KA 357 on the base of CiM Midnight.
The bead was fully enacsed in Effetre Super Clear.

Riley's Dichroic strip named RBA GN Magenta Blue and Double Helix Psyche glass were streams on CiM Midnight. This handformed barrel focal measures 36mm after fully encased in Effetre Super Clear.

Last but certainly not least...

CiM Midnight excelled as the base for Riley Dichroic Aurora C/DK Red and Double Helix Elpis silver glass. This round barrel focal is 34mm long after being encased in Effetre Super Clear and handformed.

Aren't they so pretty and so different?

I recommend trying something new is a great way to finish out 2022 and expand your beadmaking horizons for 2023.

Silver Anemone
Watercolor Focals # 3
Materials: Effetre and Double Helix Silver Glasses

This silver watercolor focal bead combined a pale green yellow core on which combinations of Double Helix silver glasses including Clio, Aurae and rare Psyche Light. Handmade silver murrini were carefully added, reduced and struck to bring a multitude of silver hues to the surface.
The watercolor like florals were then captured under a clear glass encasement and dots of glittering Aurae were added to complete the bead.
Only 5 beads were created in this series, be sure to get one before they are gone!
 

 
Spring Lentils
Materials: System96 Glass and Pendragonfyre glass frit
 
On a base of Lilac pastel, these 12 lentil beads were wrapped in fine silver foil and generously sprinkled with handmixed Pendragonfyre spring mix frit.
The frit when melted into the surface, pushes the mini silver droplets to frame the frit and create a tapestry like pattern.
Complimenting the lentils are 16 Lilac pastel spacer beads.
This entire set has been etched to a stone like organic finish.

 

Organix Dots
Materials: Effetre and Vetrofond Glasses

Hues of Turquoise, Violet, SunMango Coral and Light Cream glasses combine to create a dotted bead set bursting with shades of bright summer.  This set has been etched for a stone-like feel!
Light Cream round beads compliment the dotted beads to provide lots of potential for your summer jewelry designs

Etched Organix Mix
Materials: Effetre and Vetrofond Glasses and 99% Fine Silver

Handmade silvered coral handmade stringers are made by combining fine silver and Effetre SunMango Coral.
Combine this with the Vetrofond Turquoise, Effetre Violet and SunMango Coral and to create a bead set bursting with shades of bright summer.
Lots of variety in shapes and sizes for your jewelry designs!
  

Salted Margarita
Materials: Effetre Glasses

These etched glass beads were created on a base of Effetre Lime transparent glass with clear Effetre glass frit to create a "salted" effect on the surface.
These would be great for summery jewelry designs!!

Silvered Ivory handmade stringers are made by combining fine silver and Effetre Ivory. On a cores of a variety of Effetre transparent glasses, a stream of silvered ivory stringer was added.These beads were etched to a smooth finish, similar to beach glass
Very tactile and ready for your summer jewelry designs

 

Pinky Silver Orbs
Materials: Effetre and Double Helix Glasses and 99% Fine Silver Wire

This set of 7 encased round beads were created on a base of Double Helix silver glass, Clio.

Each bead core was wrapped in 99% fine silver wire and reduced to create the subtle variations in color. Each result was then captured under a thick encasement of Effetre clear glass.


 

Pink Rose Raku
Love Sonnet Series #13
Materials: Effetre Glass and Mixed Raku Glass Frit

Starting on a base of Effetre white encased in Effetre Rose Quartz transparent, handmixed Pendragonfyre Love Sonnet frit including Gaffer and Raku was sprinkled to create these 11 romantic beads.
These have been etched to provide a smooth tactile feel to each bead.
Perfect for the spring and summer season!
Eight rose spacer beads are included in this set.

 

Spring 2011 Goddess Orphans
Materials: Effetre, CiM, Double Helix, TAG and Precision Glasses

This 16 bead set is an eclectic assortment of various Goddess Beads.
The uniqueness of each goddess bead allows the designer to create a truly one of a kind piece of precious glass jewelry.

Each bead uses an base of Effetre or CiM glass with portals of silver infused glass encased in clear to capture the richness of each silver droplet.
