Follow-up Testing of CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 - Elegance Ltd Run

In my last post, I mentioned my challenge in testing CiM's new pink - Elegance Ltd Run.
In the set of beads where I used layering with silver glass and Super Clear, the glass turned an opaque pastel pink rather than staying opalescent.
I noticed that even in the spacer beads with no silver glass, the solid opaque pink was still the result.

I decided to complete a controlled experiment. 

Here are my steps and results:

- I have 2 kilns running when I am making beads. Both are started at the same time and beads with silver glass are placed in my right hand kiln leaving the left side kiln for non silver glass beads.
At the end of my day, I created two sets of spacers made from CiM Elegance. 

• Each were made within 5 min of each other. 
• One mandrel of 3 was placed in the right hand kiln, the other mandrel of 3 spacers in the left kiln.
  

- Both kilns were ramped down at the same rate and durations.

• - The spacers placed in the kiln with other silver glass beads turned opaque.
• - The spacers in the "non-silver glass" environment kiln remained translucent. 
  

Coincidence or does exposed silver glass create a kiln environment that change opacity of a glass?

A little mystery that may need more testing...for this beautiful precious pink!

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Elegance Ltd Run

Glass beadmakers are always on the hunt for a new pink - everything from a pale rose to a hot bubblegum pink. The ingredients to create a pink glass are pricey so each time a new pink comes out for testing it causes me a bit of anxiety to ensure that I am properly handling the glass for optimal testing results.

My "thing" is to test with silver glass, most notably Double Helix, so I embarked on creating this set of beads with high hopes.

CiM's Elegance Ltd Run is described as an opalescent pink. Yikes... Will I be able to maintain the opalescence?
I consulted with the CiM Testing team and found that some were successful in maintaining the glass quality and translucency while others appeared to create more opaque pink beads.

 

 

This set of crystal and round shapes are the result of my tests.

 

 

Layers of CiM Elegance, Effete Super Clear, Double Helix Aurae, 99% silver wire with a final encasement of Super Clear was shaped in to crystal and round beads.

 

Was it the shaping of the beads that caused the pink glass to turn opaque?
I definitely need to come to a better experiment and hypothesis on this new pink glass.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Arctic Misty Ltd Run

CiM's Arctic Misty Ltd Run was definitely a surprise glass. Described on the website as misty opal light blue, holding the rod in my hand, I saw a beautiful blue.

I love to test new colors by pairing them with Double Helix silver glasses to compare reactions. For the most part, blues and silver glass play well together.
Other CiM Testers this season has varying success with keeping the blue tones in their test beads so I was prepared for a surprise opening my kiln the next morning.

 

 

I paired CiM Arctic Misty Ltd Run with Double Helix Psyche glass shaping these flat backed tapered barrels. The Psyche glass was twisted and reduced and encased with Double Helix clear Zephyr. The colors going into the kiln was blues and blues.

 

 

What came out was a dark bottle green-brown from what was light opal blue. Was I disappointed? Certainly not as I had planned for it. Thank you my CiM Testing team as you allowed me to "make lemonade out of a lemon". 

 

 

I think these beads are beautiful and the darker base glass really allowed the silver glass to appear more vibrant. 

The spacer beads are Arctic Misty with no silver glass added.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Consuelo Misty Ltd Run

As part of the 2022 Creation Is Messy offerings, I was excited to see new teal glasses. CiM's Consuelo Misty Ltd Run is a beautiful glass that was derived from a recipe of sold out CiM Marine Ltd Run.

Of course, I dug through my CiM stash and no Marine to be found. 😞 Luckily, I did have some rods of CiM Aiko Ltd Run (which is also sold out). Yeah! 

 

Lesson to those beadmakers, if you see a color that you love - buy it as CiM's limited runs go quick. Canadian followers, shoutout Nortel in Toronto, my supplier!

I think the colors compliment each other well and work so lovely with Double Helix silver glass!

The round beads are a 50/50 of Aiko and Consuelo Misty with a sprinkling of Double Helix Aurae fine frit and reduced to bring out the metallic glitter of the silver glass.

 

A duet of each Aiko and Consuelo Misty beads fine frit and reduced. 

 

Plain spacers of the each base glass complete the set.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Diaphanous Milky Ltd Run

Creation Is Messy’s 2022 Diaphanous Misty Ltd Run is the misty sister of the milky glass that I previously tested. This ivory misty opal melts smoothly with no stockiness. 

I have been told that this glass was related to a previous CiM transparent glass called Peachy Keen Ltd Run I unfortunately did not have any left in my CiM stash, so I picked up a rod of CiM Nectar Ltd Run and used it for this set of beads.

 

The round beads are a 50/50 of Nectar and Diaphanous Misty with a sprinkling of Double Helix Aurae fine frit. Each bead was wrapped with 99% fine silver wire and reduced to bring out the metallic glitter of the silver glass.

Four round beads of Diaphanous Misty were coated in fine frit and reduced. Plain spacers of the base glass complete the set.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Ocelot Ltd Run

In this fun new Creation Is Messy streamer glass for 2022, Ocelot Ltd Run is described as a clear base with orange, yellow, & black streamers.
Previously CiM had experimented with other streamer glass combinations. My favourite was in 2020 with Circus Tent Ltd Run, see my previous post about it here. 

 
I decided to pair Ocelot with a complimentary brown glass from my CiM stash - Brown Eyed Girl Ltd Run.

 

This set of tapered barrels used Ocelot as the focal centre stripe with ends of Brown Eyed Girl. I am please with how the streamers remained clear and visible with no smearing nor did they disappear or blend together. Both glasses melted smoothly and was a pleasure to work with.

 

The spacers are solid Brown Eyed Girl.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Rare 2021.09.25

Each year when I have the wonderful opportunity to test new CiM - Creation Is Messy colors, there is always a rod or two of a surprise color that was part of their color recipe experiments.

This time around it was a rod of a light yellow cloudy transparent simply called 2021.09.25. It was not put into a production run, but the color is so pretty that I hope it may be created again in the future.

 

In this set of simple frit beads, the base glass was sprinkled with Val Cox Painter's Series - Neptune frit. 

 

 

This frit appears to no longer be available on Val's site, but I do see that it is in stock at Nortel Glass in Toronto.

 

The spacers are solid 2021.09.25 test glass. It melted smoothly like butter and I love the soft yellow tone.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Diaphanous Milky Ltd Run

Just a quick post to show another few beads made with Creation Is Messy’s 2022 Diaphanous Milky Ltd Run. As I mentioned in a previous post, it is an ivory milky opal melts smoothly with no issues. It is a more opaque in comparison to its misty sister glass.


 

This mini set of beads was created with a base of CiM's new glass, on which Val Cox Royal Ballet glass frit was added. Diaphanous Milky's peach undertones mixed with the rich pink transparent of the frit created a delicate set of very pretty beads!

This glittering set of beads was created with a base of CiM's new glass, on which Double Helix silver glass, Aurae frit was added and reduced to glittery goodness!

The silver glass fumed slightly with a golden glow which I think enhanced the peachy hue of the base glass. 

Spacer beads were included to provide a comparison between the decorated beads and the plain spacers.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Glycerin Milky Ltd Run - Part 2

Just a quick post on another quick glass frit test using Creation Is Messy’s 2022 Glycerin Milky Ltd Run.

As I mentioned in a post on May 1, 2022, Glycerin is an off-white milky opal that bead testers describe as a moonstone. It is a clean white in my opinion and it melted smoothly with no issues.

In this mini-set of beads, I used Val Cox Montmartre. This frit pairs generous chunks of Purple Rose with a blend of golden transparents to create beads that appear to be illuminated from within.

Worked in a neutral flame, these beads were easy to complete with a sprinkling of frit and a wrap of 99% fine silver wire.

The spacer beads are pure Glycerin to note that the change in the color came from the orange and gold transparent rather than a reaction to the silver wire.

Val Cox Montmartre glass frit is available through Nortel Glass in Toronto as I do not see it on Val's site currently.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Pond Slime Misty Ltd Run

Creation Is Messy’s 2022 Pond Slime Misty Ltd Run is a green misty opal leaning to the yellow side of the spectrum. It is a very pretty color that speaks to the first shoots in a spring garden.

As the base glass was a green hue, I pulled out of my stash a CiM rare silver laden glass in the green palette named Dragon Ltd Run.

Starting on a base of this glass, I layered dots of CiM Dragon, CiM’s dense transparent pine green with aventurine named Eden and a Double Helix silver glass named Olympia Rain.

Clear portal dots of Double Helix Zephyr were added to capture the stormed reaction of the silver glass producing streams of greens, golds and ivories.

CiM's green glass stayed true to it's original tone and melted beautifully and stayed stiff enough to maintain the layering without drifting or shifting.

Dots of Double Helix OX-376, a yellow-green tourmaline, jewel super luster, complete each bead.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2022 Color - Pond Slime Milky Ltd Run - Part 2

Creation Is Messy's Pond Slime Milky Ltd Run is a new 2022 CiM - Creation Is Messy is a lime green milky opal.

Each bead was created layering two Double Helix's silver glasses. 

First a sprinkling of Gaia was placed in the centre of each bead and melted in. Surface decoration was added with a Double Helix emerald green luster called OX 459. 

Each bead was waved in a reduction flame to bring the metals of blue, green and golds to the surface.

The glass color stayed true under the frit as seen in comparison to the Pond Slime Milky spacers.
I had no issues with melting this glass. It flowed easily and smoothly with no bubbles or shocking.
