Spring 2019 - New CiM Color - Porpoise

Today's new 2019 CiM - Creation Is Messy color is Porpoise Ltd Run!

This new glass color is a greenish gray opaque that when combined with silver foil and my hand blended Pendragonfyre glass frit really sings! It is a wonderful base for the raku and Z-99 to bloom!
I have included a few photos of this set as I wanted to note an observation when working with this glass. It appears that the spacers have taken on a pearl finish when they emerged from the kiln. I am not sure if this was due to the silver foil/ glass frit on the nearby beads or if this is something that can be replicated again in Porpoise beads on their own.

Could the formula has similar chemistry to the darker Tahitian Pearl? More experimenting will be required to confirm.

I am always looking for base glasses to pair with my Pendragonfyre frit that will bring the rich magenta, purples and blues to bloom with no yucky reactions. Porpoise is definitely one to put on the list.
These beads can be left with a glossy finish or they are also very beautiful as a tumble etched set as well.

I also did a quick test bead using CiM's new Peppermint Cream Ltd Run. If this bead is any indication, I expect to be using it in a set very soon!
The silver foil really glitters in these beads.

Here is the bead sitting beside the completed CiM Porpoise set for comparison.

Spring 2019 - New CiM Color - Aiko

Today's new 2019 CiM color is Aiko!

CIM’s new Aiko Ltd Run is a vivid transparent teal green that melts smoothly and has a depth of tone and does not bubble or boil.

This focal bead combined it with Double Helix Psyche silver glass frit and 99% fine silver wire encased to capture the glittery goodness!

As most of my color testing pairs new CiM colors with my favorite silver glasses, it is no surprise that I took the opportunity to try out a new Val Cox silver glass frit called Flora.

This focal bead combined it with Val Cox’s Flora and a couple wraps of 99% fine silver wire encased within.

This final bead was a combination of several of the new CiM 2019 glasses.
So many of the new colors compliment each other within the green and teal palettes!

This centre bead was created on a base of CiM Peppermint Cream Ltd Run with some CiM Eden Ltd Run dots and CiM Aiko flower twists.

Spring 2019 - New CiM Colors - Egg White & Lemonade

This post carries on with CiM - Creation Is Messy sneak peeks for Spring 2019!

The two glasses revealed in this post are misty white opals. Each of these new glasses were engineered in response to color requests for a soft yellow. The difference between the two is that CiM's Egg White Ltd Run will stay translucent after annealing in the kiln.

CiM’s Lemonade Ltd Run is a pale yellow misty opal paired here with a mixture of several Double Helix silver glass and streams of 99%fine silver wire encased in clear.  The spacers show the beautiful pale yellow in this lemony glass.

CiM's EggWhite Ltd Run is a whitish opal with a hint of yellow that stays translucent. These barrel beads used this glass as a base for encased Val Cox Isabella silver infused glass frit.
Each photo shows the same three beads from different perspectives.

Spring 2019 - New CiM Colors - Ectoplasm, Cerulean and Your Majesty Ltd Runs

This post carries on with sneak peeks of CiM- Creation is Messy colors for Spring 2019!

Each of the bead sets featured in this post were combined with Double Helix Aurae silver glass!

CiM's Ectoplasm Ltd Run is described on their website as a candy coloured yellowy green opal that stays translucent. It pairs beautifully with silver glass and maintains its bright and cheerful green hue with little to no fuming. This is one of my new favourites.

CiM's Cerulean Ltd Run is a transparent blue aqua that seems to glow from within in both natural light and sunlight. The glass flows smoothly with no stockiness.

CiM's Your Majesty Ltd Run is rich jewel tone reddish pink purple with no brown cast. Pairs with silver glass there was no fuming on the surface and the color stayed true. This is unique in comparison to purples in other glass lines. Definitely will be experimenting more with this new color.

CiM's website is my go to resource for information and previews of each color in their extensive color offerings. I am impressed each time I visit to see how the lamp working community shares their beautiful creations, ongoing discoveries and feedback. Proud to be part of this collaboration effort!

Torch Session - Revisiting CiM Colors - The Pink and Neutral Palettes

CiM - Creation Is Messy’s extensive list of colors to a new beadmaker may seem overwhelming. Beautiful colors with amazingly creative names.
The best resource to seem some time getting to know the color ranges is the CiM website.
In this post, I am revisiting a few older glasses that deserve another look.

Today’s post are beads from the Pink and Neutral Palettes

CiM's Razzleberry Ltd Run is one of the coolest glasses that I have worked with. It is now rare and sold out, so I pull it out every so often to experiment and remember just how cool it is. A transparent lavender blue in rod form, hot pink when worked.
IN the set below, I paired it with CiM's Cottontail Ltd Run, a pale opal peach. With a quick wrap of 99% fine silver wire, I colored are perfect with each other. The silver wire fumed the glass just a touch and I was happy with the spacer beads. They were created with a base of Cottontail with a layer of Razzleberry.

CiM's Spooky Ltd Run is a white opal glass that melts easily and keeps is clean translucent tone when worked with other colors. The spacers below shows CiM's Spooky's white goodness. The focal bead used CiM's Razzleberry Ltd Run to create the striated rich pink tones.

Below CiM Spooky Ltd Run was the base of the cube frit bead. The glass was sprinkled with some blended pink frit. There was no adverse reaction and the while color remained true.

Another rare CiM pink is Sakura Ltd Run. This glass when paired with silver infused glass, the pink seemed to take on a peachy pink cast.  In the set below, the centre beads were sprinkled with Double Helix fine Aurae frit and reduced to a glittering goodness!

The final glass to review in this post is CiM's Charcoal Ltd Run . It is an extremely dark gray that appears in the rod to be almost black. The set below was a simple pairing with 99% fine silver wire wraps.

Where this glass really sings is when it is combined with silver glass. I can't remember just how many pounds of this glass I have used over the years, but 90% of the beads were with Double Helix reduced silver glasses.

In the set below, Double Helix Aurae fine silver frit was reduced bringing a metallic bling to the bead. There is no fuming of the bead keeping the CiM Charcoal gray clean and classic.

I look forward to a few days in the studio next week. No one enjoys taking vacation in the studio more than me!

Stay Tuned to new posts as I work through the remaining CiM 2019 colors for Spring.

ICYMI - Double Helix Silver Glass Test Beads

Just a quick post on some Double Helix silver testing that I completed a while back but realized I didn't post.

Each of the beads below used Effetre Pale Lavender as a base. As with all lavender glasses, they shift their color based on the lighting. In the photos below, the glass is more on the pink side under the studio lamps.

The focal bead  was made on on a base of Pale Lavender with layers of Double Helix's Rhea ruby and ribbon of Double Helix Psyche encased in clear glass. This allows the silver infused glass to bloom within the Psyche to blues and creams.

In the photo below, the barrel bead used similar layering and bloomed with a more muted pattern. The Psyche rings at each end fumed the surface of the bead to a golden cast.

Below are two photos of the same bead showing the change in the bead based on lighting.

Daylight

Starting again with a base of Effetre Pale Lavender, I added streams of CiM - Creation is Messy's CiM Serenity Ltd Run. This brought out some teal tones to compliment the streams of Double Helix Psyche captured under the clear glass encasement. I added 99% fine silver wire on each end of the bead.

Have a great weekend!

Torch Session - Revisiting CiM Colors - The Brown Palette

CiM - Creation Is Messy’s extensive list of colors to a new beadmaker may seem overwhelming. Beautiful colors with amazingly creative names.

The best resource to seem some time getting to know the color ranges is the CiM website.
Kathy’s organization by hue palette has allowed me to mix and match color families easily.
Over the next few weeks, I will be testing  new colors and revisiting some that deserve a second look.

Today’s post are beads from the Brown Palette

CiM's Indian Summer Ltd Run is a transparent brown that strikes to a rich color. In the middle bead below I simply wrapped some 99% fine silver wire and the glass color stayed true with no adverse fuming or color change in comparison to the spacers.

CiM's Canoe Ltd Run is an opaque silver brown that changes tone as it is worked in the flame. This can create blushes of russet and red brown in the final beads. As shown in the photo below, each bead was wrapped with silver wire and the result was clean with no reactions.
It melted easily with no shockiness.

CiM's Velveteen Ltd Run is a creamy white opal. The true color of the glass is shown in the spacer beads below. The focal bead was created with a base of Velveteen with a layer of silver foil and rolled in Glass Diversions Coffee Bean frit.

Another opal brown is CiM's Allspice Ltd Run. This glass is a deeper in brown tones but is glorious when paired with silver glass. The spacers in the photo below are CiM Allspice. The focal barrel bead was created with one half of Allspice with fine Aurae silver glass frit and the other end is CiM's Indian Summer Ltd Run.

The photo below is another look at CiM's Allspice Ltd Run in plain spacers. This opal brown is classic and rich.

Both CiM's Allspice Ltd Run and CiM's Velveteen Ltd Run are showing as "sold out" in the CiM color archives. You may be able to locate some through distributors like Nortel. Reach out to Jean if you are interested in exploring this color.

Til next time,

Spring 2019 - New CiM Colors - Tahitian Pearl, Weeping Willow, Baked Alaska, Cerulean and Wheatgrass

This new post focusses on the new CiM - Creation is Messy's Tahitian Pearl Ltd Run.
This new glass is a gray based metallic black that creates a gunmetal finish as it melts.

The bead tests below each used this new CiM offering in a variety of ways to decorate new beads.

Here CiM’s Weeping Willow Ltd Run, an opaque green, is paired here with streams and dots of CiM’s new Tahitian Pearl glass

Tahitian Pearl melts easily and smoothly so I enjoyed blowing some new glass shards to add to these beads.

CiM’s Cerulean Ltd Run is paired with handblown shards of CiM’s Tahitian Pearl glass. The shards shine in the sunlight and creates an "armour-like" look in natural light.

Here it is paired with CiM’s new Wheatgrass Ltd Run green transparent.

The photo below shows my "rivet" beads using the Tahitian Pearl  to resemble metal decoration over CiM’s Baked Alaska. Baked Alaska, an opaque yellowish neutral, is a new premium glass offering that contains silver and as it is worked in the flame will create deeper golden cast the longer it is held in the flame through cooling and warming cycles.

CiM's website is my go to resource for information and previews of each color in their extensive color offerings. Spring 2019 - New CiM Color - Amethyst

This post carries on with sneak peeks for spring!

Today's new 2019 CiM color is Amethyst.

I have many clients that love purple so any new additions to the purple color palette are always welcomed.
CiM - Creation is Messy's new Amethyst is a light transparent purple that leans toward the blue side reducing the brown cast that some purples can create.
As spacers, it is a very pretty light purple as seen in the photo below.

When combined with silver glass, it is important to note my observations below in your bead creation plans.

If you combine it with silver glass know that will fume a golden cast on any base glass.
As seen below, I used a ribbon of Double Helix Kronos 2 over the base of Amethyst and encased it in Double Helix's non reactive Zephyr. The purple base fumed a bit around the edges, while the blues within Kronos 2 bloomed to beautiful blue green hues.

In the photo below, I simply melted the Kronos 2 scrolls into the surface of the Amethyst before I encased it again in clear glass. The silver glass fumed a golden cast which appears more pronounced as a brown cast over the bead.

Lesson Learned: This new purple is wonderful addition to my glass color palette. Getting to know each of these new glasses and how they collaborate with each other is key to amazing bead creations.
My plan to test this again in beads with non silver color combinations will be shared in future blog posts.
