Color Tests for Silver Glass Fuming

Just a quick note!

Both bead sets in today's post illustrate the use of Double Helix Aurae silver glass shards.
When Aurae shards are added to a base glass and reduced they cast golden, silver and blue copper tones within each reduced shard.
When ever I choose to make new beadsets with silver glass, I like to test the base glass to confirm if the color is altered when the silver glass is reduced.
In today's experiments, the glass did alter by either darkening or casting a golden fume.

Here are just a couple of examples.
The first set was a combination of CiM's 2023 Delft Misty, a blue misty opal.

The silver glass reduction has cast the blue of Delft Misty to a darker tone.

I also noted that Aurae shard turned to a blue metallic shine much quicker than normal.

The set below is also a new transparent color for 2023 from CiM named Charisma, a transparent lavender purple.

In this case, you can see the difference in the tone of the purple glass under the Aurae shards is much more golden than in the spacer beads on each side of the shard bead.

As always, I suggest you reach out to Nortel to place you glass orders. They carry an extensive selection of CiM glass as well as Double Helix, Riley Dichro and glass frit.

CiM - Creation Is Messy 2021 Colors - Gossamer Ltd Run

The bead set show below was created with a new 2021 CiM - Creation Is Messy glass named Gossamer Ltd Run
It is one of the new opal that has a misty and milky version.

Gossamer Ltd Run is the milky option and is a translucent white glass.

The round beads were created with a base of Gossamer on which hand blown shards of CiM Tahitian Pearl Ltd Run was gently added and melted into the surface.

Tahitian Pearl has a matte pearlescent shine creating an antique armour-like look to each bead.
A couple of spacers of Gossamer are included to show the glass in its natural form.

Testing 2019 CiM Colors with Silver Glass

This post carries on with more CiM - Creation Is Messy glass combinations with silver glass.

First up is a barrel bead made with a base of CiM's Aiko Ltd Run in the centre and CiM Emperor ends.

This bead has surface treatments of several silver glasses including Double Helix glasses including Kronos 2, Skiron and Aether in powders and shards. The bead was completed with a generous wrap of fine silver wire. The spacers are CiM's Aiko.

This bead has a base of CiM's Enchanted Ltd Run, with stripes of CiM Aiko. Double Helix Skiron shards were added and gently warmed to a golden glow. The spacers are matching Aiko.

This last bead was testing how Double Helix Skiron silver glass would react on a base of CiM Little Boy Blue. I superheated the bead and it produced highlights of purples and magenta. Definitely will be trying some further testing with these two glasses. The spacer beads are CiM's Little Boy Blue (now Sold Out).

Finally, this barrel bead made with a base of CiM's Egg White with a generous wrap of Skiron and 99% fine silver wire.

Til next time,
D.

Single Focal Beads - Window Panes with Silver Reactions

Today, we are exploring "window pane" style focal beads.

Starting on a base of CiM's new limited run, Mockingbird, a transparent grey, Double Helix's Ekho frit was sprinkled, reduced and encased with clear glass.
Dots of Double Helix silver glass were placed at each end to create this "window pane" bead. I love the hues of blue "ghostly" images peeking as if captured within the bead.

Two views of this bead are noted below showing how the bead's appearance shifts based on the viewing angle.

Starting on a base of CiM's new limited run, Barrier Reef, a transparent teal, silver glass was swirled, reduced and encased with clear glass.
Shards of Double Helix Triton glass were placed at each end to create this "window pane" bead. I love the hues of teal and blue peeking through along with the "mother of pearl" reaction of the silver glass that shines through as well.

Two views of this bead are noted below:

This last focal bead I have fondly name "The Tempest". It started out with a base of clear glass on which I added CiM Cleopatra, a dense transparent purple I then added Double Helix silver glass from their recent "garage sale" mystery box.
The bead was both reduced and gravity swirled and encased under clear glass to create the wisps of colors.
A few dots of silver glass were added to the shoulders of the bead and reduced to a metallic shine for this "window pane" bead.
