A revisit of neglected glasses..

This week I wanted to revisit a couple of glasses that I hadn't used for a while.
- My goddess set has a base of coral from CiM called Phoenix which is perfect for spring!
- The two simple round bead sets are rare uniques from CiM that I cherish and only make into sets when I am ready to part with just a bit.
The Pumpkin Unique is a beautiful sienna brown and can transform into various hues. This set is rich coffee tones.
The Chai Unique is a batch that is a soft pink that is so classic.

And of course, last but not least, Dark Cocoa and Golden Aurae… because no one can turn down Chocolate!

"Irish myth name of a goddess of death and war, derived from Irish MhÃ³r Rioghain, meaning great queen"

Materials: CiM - Creation is Messy, Effetre, Trautman Art and Double Helix Glasses

This set of 12 goddess series beads was created on a base of CiM's Phoenix, a peach to orange coral opaque glass. Each goddess bead was then layered with dots of Effetre Dark Ivory and a mixture of CiM's Black Currant Unique and silver infused glasses including TAG Absinthe and Double Helix Olympia Rain. The combination of the glasses create delicate storms captured under each clear glass portal. Double Helix glasses, Aurae and Triton, complete the metallic highlight droplets on each bead.

This set of 21 round beads was created with a rare glass from CiM - Creation is Messy. Originally formulated to be a shade of Chai, a soft brown, this batch of glass, Unique#3 turned into a soft pink opaque. Simple and classic!

Rich Coffee Rounds
Materials: CiM - Creation is Messy Glasses

This set of 19 round beads was created with a rare glass from CiM - Creation is Messy. Originally formulated to be a shade of Pumpkin, the batch of glass, Unique#1 turned into a burnt sienna brown. These round beads transformed in a rich shade of coffee brown with slight variations within the hue. Simple and absolutely beautiful!

Golden Cocoa
Materials: Effetre and Double Helix Glasses

This golden set of 11 beads were created with a base of Effetre Wine Red Brown, which resembles dark chocolate on which Double Helix Aurae shards were carefully placed. Each bead was then reduced to bring out the glorious metallic bling in hues of gold, blue and rose!

Materials: CiM - Creation is Messy & Double Helix Glasses

This glittering set of 11 beads were created with a combination of CiM's Sangre red and streams of Double Helix silver glass, Aurae. The red base glass has taken on a very dark blood red appearance from the fuming of the silver glass.

The silver glass was reduced to bring out the metallic hues of gold, blue and copper. Awesome Bling for the winter season!

This set of 9 goddess series beads was created on a base of Vetrofond red-brown odd lot named Strawberry Sweet. Each goddess bead was then layered with dots of Effetre Dark Ivory and a mixture of CiM's Black Currant Unique and a layer of DH Psyche Light silver infused glass. The combination of the two glasses create delicate storms captured under each clear glass portal.Double Helix glass, Aurae, completes the metallic highlight droplets on each bead. This glittering set of 9 nugget beads were created with a combination of CiM's Twilight, a transparent blue grey glass and murrini of Double Helix silver glass. Each Murrini was reduced and encased under a clear portal. Dots of DH Triton were added and reduced to glittering hues of blues and gold. This golden set of 9 beads were created with a base of limited run CiM's vibrant blue glass known as Blue Suede Shoes on which Double Helix Aurae shards were carefully placed. Each bead was then reduced to bring out the glorious metallic bling in hues of gold, copper and rose!

CiM's Peace white opaque glass was combined with the newest CiM Red, Valentine. This new glass under natural light is a saturated and bright opaque red that darkens to a intense maroon red under fluorescent or incandescent. This set of 15 beads features a handformed heart at its centre, with 10 encased dotted beads and 4 spacers.

This set of 12 goddess series beads was created on a base of pale pink, CiM's Desert Pink Unique #1. Each goddess bead was then layered with dots of Effetre Dark Ivory and a mixture of CiM's deep red Valentine and a layer of DH Clio silver infused glass. The combination of the two glasses create the deepest midnight blue under each clear glass portal. Double Helix test glass OK-381R completes the metallic highlight droplets on each bead.

This set of 11 goddess series beads was created on a base of not yet released new color CiM's Auburn. This new color is "an extremely dense transparent that color shifts between auburn red and brown. Each goddess bead was then layered with dots of Effetre Dark Ivory and a mixture of Trautman Art Glass' Golden Emerald silver infused glass. Double Helix Triton complete the blue\gold metallic highlight droplets on each bead Auburn spacers (4) are included in this set.

King Arthur's Armour

"King Arthur has always been a favorite of mine, so much so that I use his last name in my studio name. Arthur's symbol is that of the Red Dragon, so when I first saw this new CiM color of red, I immediately thought of King Arthur's colors mixed with silver glass to resemble antiqued armour."

On a base of Effetre Pale Aquamarine transparent, Double Helix silver glass frit named Kronos was sprinkled, reduced and encased again with Pale Aquamarine. The hues of cream, blue and green come alive under the encasement! These 11 beads were created with 3/32" mandrels.

Materials: Effetre and Double Helix Glasses

This set of 7 beads were created with a combination of Effetre Rose Quartz transparent glass and dewdrops of Double Helix silver glass, Kalypso. The silver glass was added, struck and reduced to mother of pearl shine and then encased to create the colourful droplets of colour of the silver infused glass.The result is gentle hues of amber, purple, cream, rose and blue in each encased bubble.

Materials: Effetre, Double Helix Glasses and 99% Fine Silver Wire

This set of 9 encased round beads were created on a base of Double Helix silver glass, Ehko. This glass starts as a beige-tan, but when each bead core was wrapped in 99% fine silver wire and reduced to create the dramatic hues of pinks, blues, ambers and purples. Each result was then captured under a thick encasement of Effetre clear glass.

This set of 15 sugared beads was created with bases of Effetre Extra clear transparent glass and CiM's, Peace, white opaque and sprinkled with fine clear glass frit.

This unique set of 10 beads were created with a combination of Effetre Rose Quartz transparent glass and dewdrops of Double Helix silver glass, Kalypso.
The silver glass was added, struck and reduced to mother of pearl shine and then encased to create the colourful droplets of colour of the silver infused glass.
The result is gentle hues of purple, cream, rose and blue in each encased bubble.

Frosted Apple
Materials: Effetre and CiM - Creation is Messy Glasses

Nine of this set's beads were created on a base of Effetre White glass and encased with CiM's Appletini transparent glass.

The beads were then etched to create the frosted look that is smooth to the touch.Ten Appletini etched spacers are included in this set.

Silverdrops
Materials: Effetre, Trautman Art & Double Helix Glasses

These droplet shaped beads were created by first creating a round bead of clear glass. A droplet of silver infused glass was then added to one side of the base bead and then encased in a large droplet of clear glass to capture and magnify the silver glass encased within. There are 33 droplet beads within this set in a variety of colors and were created with 3/32" holes.

Iridescent Blush
Materials: CiM- Creation is Messy & Double Helix Glasses

This glittering set of 21 beads were created with a combination of CiM's Blush pink transparent and scrolls of Double Helix silver glass, Psyche Light.
The silver glass was reduced to bring out the irridescent metallic hues of blues, green, purples and pinks. The metallic bling seems to shift in hues when looking from different angles. Awesome Bling for this fall and winter!

This set of 10 handcrafted beads combine lots of fine silver and striking silver glass shards!

On a base of CiM's African Grey opaque glass, fine silver foil was melted in.
Shards of Double Helix Terranova 2.1 silver infused glass was added and
struck to bring out the amazing hues of magenta, blue and green.

The silver microdroplets have a stunning golden sheen to complete each bead

Where the cerulean sky meets the azure sea you will find a treasure in these beads!

This gleaming set of beads is a combination of Effetre's light ivory and
Double Helix silver infused glasses.
Starting with the ivory base, each bead was wrapped with silver foil, Electra silver
infused glass shards. Double Helix murrini were then added, reduced and encased
in clear glass to capture the mother of pearl sheen of each murrini.

A week of vacation time has flown by and I realized that we are into the last real month of summer here on the east coast of Canada. We have had a very rainy summer and today I am looking out to almost 50mm of rain that fell today.

The garden is soggy and seems to not have a chance to dry out enough between rains. So fingers crossed that August brings more sun for the tomatoes and green beans!

My gosh, it is hot for July in Eastern Canada.
So hot that it really reduces my time at the torch to before sunrise or after sunset.

It is amazing how great it is to take a weekend and just relax. It is the best therapy sometimes for a creative block.

This past week was my "therapy session" spent at a cottage with no internet access. It forced me to just relax and let my mind wander from the busy work week and the "off to the studio" weekends.

The pace of balancing both a day-job and making beads for Pendragonfyre fans can drain one's batteries without a "recharge break".

I am glad to say that it was definitely worth it (thanks Bernie!) and I am starting to work on some new sets this week, so stay tuned to this blog!

Limited Edition #1

This bead set is set #1 of 2 Our Love bead sets that was published in the national magazine, Bead Trends - March 2010 issue.

Materials: Effetre Glass and Double Helix Glasses

Starting with an inner core of Effetre Pastel Ink Blue Purple, the four focal barrel beads of this set were generously sprinkled with a custom blend of Double Helix silver infused frit. After reducing the beads to bring out the beautiful colors of blue and purple, each bead was encased in Effetre clear to capture the opal-like shine of the silver glass and was shaped into the round barrel shape.
To bring out the true bling of these beads, hand-drawn dots of Triton silver glass were scattered on these beads and reduced to bring the golden shine to the surface.

I was fortunate to receive 2 rods for testing from CiM and I can't wait to purchase this when it is introduced this summer.
This glass is a milky white in the rod that turns a marble-like white after emerging from the kiln. The Aurae silver glass gently fumes the Marble to an antiqued golden hue
and brings out a slight pinky glow to the shards.

I have felt over the past few weeks that all the rainy weather was really begin to affect my creativity. It is difficult at times to constantly see gray skies around us and not be impacted in our moods.

Now that the sun is finally making an appearance every few days, it seems to be brightening the world around us and turning on the creativity feelings again.

For Canadians, Victoria Day long weekend is the kick off for the summer season. We have been plagued by wet, wet, and more wet weather over the past 2 weeks, so it was wonderful to see the sun today.

On a base of Effetre Lime transparent, these 8 lentil beads were generously sprinkled with Double Helix silver glass frit known as Kronos frit.
When reduced and encased in a sprinkling of Effetre Clear frit, the beautiful mottled blue patterning appears.

Finally, March is heading out the door, fingers cross it goes out like a lamb! The snow is almost all melted here on the East Coast.

To bring a little spring into my home, even though it is cold outside, I have tried an experiment that many elementary schools perform each March\April....forcing branches to bud and bloom early.

I have in my kitchen window, a large vase of water with cut branches of wild cherry, apple, plum, honeysuckle. After 7 days, they are now budding out and a few leaves have gently opened... Hoping to have some blooming in another week or so! The smell should be divine!

Testing a new CiM Glass and loving it!

I am starting off this blog post with results from a new CiM-Creation is Messy glass that I have just finished testing.... I was so pleased... and I will definitely be ordering this glass as soon as it is available!

I can describe it a couple of ways:

-it melts like butter with little to no bubbles

-it reminds me of a crisp green apple or maybe a classic green Coke bottle... depending on the light

-it combines with silver glass like magic!

Thank you Kathy for giving me the opportunity to try out this new color... I LOVE IT!

First to the present...

I was thrilled to see the new March issue of Bead Trends is now out to the stores. I was honored to be featured in this issue with my design named "Our Love".
The design is a combination of rich purples including CiM's Eggplant( a great base for silver frit), Effetre Purple Glycine and lots of Double Helix silver glass decorations!

Now to the future...

As with fashion, jewelry has it trends and forecasts. As most fashion forecasts can be subjective, I prefer to use color forecasts to provide me the guides within I can be inspired to create my bead sets.
Working with lampwork glass rods remind me so much of playing with my crayons as a child. Vibrant colors, mixing and matching to create new collections of color designs. Maybe that is why I am attracted to glass so much, as the colors available are vast and there are always new ones to try and experiment with.

The color forecast experts, in my opinion, are the Pantone group. In watching their forecasts over the past decade, it is amazing to see how the colors that they predict, end up in more products than just clothing and paint products. Walk in any department store and you will see the colors they have forecasted show up in household items, food labels, storage containers and even toothbrushes! Turquoise was the color for 2010 and it was everywhere!

Pantone's 2011 color of the year was announced a few months ago and I blogged about it in this past post. Now the fall color forecast was released a couple of weeks ago. Below is a snippet of the color palette!
Over the next few months, I will be creating bead sets that will get you ready to create jewelry pieces for fall 2011, let me know if you like what you see and if a particular color is your favorite.

Can you believe that it is almost March! For my part of the world, that is like a faint light at the end of the winter tunnel.
March brings little longer days, and hopefully some mild weather to melt away all the accumulated snow.
Here in New Brunswick Canada, we broke the record for the most accumulated snow on record in February of any year! Last time I checked we were up to 120 cm and counting!! For those of you not in the metric world, that is 47.2 inches!

We have run out of places to move the snow out of the driveway and many neighbours are shovelling the snow off their roofs due to the heavy weight bearing on their houses!

So March is my month to think positively and bring on the sunshine and spring! The bead sets in this post are the start of my spring!

I have been playing with some silver infused murrini from Double Helix this week... and here are a couple of the groovy test beads!

These two below are on a base of CiM's blue opal, Electric Avenue.

This one is a big encased bead on a base of Double Helix Terra 2, looks like a big marble!

Within this posting, I want to share with you a couple of new upcoming colors of CiM - Creation is Messy glasses coming out in the next month of so:
The first two that I have tried out are beautiful blue green opals, Rainforest and Atlantis.
Both of these new sets are now offered in my Artfire studio.

First up, Rainforest is described as a greenish teal opal.
When I think of the rainforest, I imagine rich greens paired with wood tones of brown, so I decided to match this glass with some handmade Raku glass shards. I really like the result!

Next up....CiM's new bluish teal opal. Atlantis.
This is a great glass to mix with silver glass shards... and in the set below I couldn't resist using Double Helix Triton, named for the mythic god of the sea!

Effetre Rosata Extralux transparent glass base.
99% Fine silver foil was burnished to the hot surface and then rolled
in a custom Reichenbach frit blend including Iris Gold, Opal Lilac and Lilac Red.

The silver foil has raised to the surface of the bead creating framing around the reduced frit, bringing out a shining cast among the purple and golden patterns.
